بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation; there is no one worthy of worship in truth except Allah. May the peace and blessings be upon his final Prophet Muhammad (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) after whom there is no prophet. And, may the peace & blessings be upon his Family, his Companions & all those who follow their way & adhere to the Quran, Sunnah & the way of the Salaf inwardly & outwardly until the establishment of the last day.

Aqidah(Belief), Manhaj(Methodology) & Madhab(School of Fiqh) of Ali Hussain Dhuniya

I am Sunni Salafi Athari Ahlehadees AhleSunnati-wal-jamah Al-Firqa-an-Najiyah in the matters of Aqidah & Manhaj. As a layman muslim, I ascribe myself to the Hanbali School of Fiqh by Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal Sahibani(رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ) Rahimullah.

According to Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin, In general, Madhab of Imam Ahmad is the closest Madhab of Sunnah & Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan said: "You should not say 'There is no truth except in the Hanbali Madhab' this is impermissible. As for saying that the four madhabs are all Madhab of AhleSunnah Wal-Jamah and goodness then there is no harm in this". The point is don't be fanatics towards specific AhleSunnah Wal-Jamah Madhabs.

The Distinction Between a Sunnī And a Salafī | Shaykh Sālih As'Suhaymee

Shaykh Sālih As'Suhaymee said: 'As for the saying: 'I am Sunni & I am not a Salafi.' Then this statement is contradictory! The Sunni O you Miskeen(impoverished person), is the Salafi, & the Salafi is the Sunni.

Whoever distinguishes between the two then he has distinguished between two things that resemble each other;

So the Salaf are the Ahles'Sunnah. And Salafiyoon are the followers of the sunnah, And whoever absolves himself from that then he's not a Sunni nor Salafi.

Ahlus'Sunnah, the Salaf, the followers of the Salaf, the Firqat an-Najjeeyah, the Taifat-ul-Mansoorah, the Jama'ah, the Salafi & the Sunni. All of these mean one title: And they are the Jama'ah, & they are similar to those whom were upon what the Prophet Muhammad (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) & his Companions were upon.

And Shaykh believes that whoever brags with this type of talk (I am Sunni & I am not Salafi) is very far from the Manhaj of the Salaf. So stay away from him, & don't accept from him unless he repents to Allah from speech'.

Is Salafiyah A Group or a Movement?

Shaykh Hasan As-Somali(who studied under major scholar Imam Muqbil Hadee Al-Wadee in Yemen in 90's) said "Salafiyah is not a group. Salafiyah doesn't have any individual that formulated it is Quran, Sunnah with understanding of Salaf.

So anyone who is upon Quran, Sunnah with the understanding of the salaf as it relates to the Usool(principle), they are from upon the way of Salafiyah whether you know them or whether you don't know them whether that say they are salafi or whether they don't say they are salafi.

Salafiyah is the synonymous to the term sunni or Ahlul Hadith Ahlul-Athar AHleSunnati-wal-Jama'ah. They all mean exactly the same thing. The word AhleSunnati-wal-Jama'ah appear during the time of companions to differentiate between the people of sunnah & the congregation from like of the Khawarij & other than them".

But Still, Isn't Salafiyah a Sect?

Yes, it is but they are the sect of Allah as Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan said "Hijbullah - Hijb(party) of Allah".

Questioner:

Your eminence Shaykh, May Allah make you successful.

We hear some people saying: It is not permissible to affiliate himself with the salaf(pious predecessors). And they consider Salafiyah to be one of today's sects; so what is your opinion about what they said?

The Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan replied:

Yes, the salaf is the sect of Allah.

The salaf is a sect but (it is) the Sect of Allah.

Allah the Almighty says: "Allâh is pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allâh. Verily, it is the Party of Allâh that will be the successful".[Surah Al-Mujadila verse 22]

So the Salaf sided with the Book of Quran, Sunnah & Sahaba & thus became the sect of Allah. And those who oppose them are misguided deviant sects.

Sects Vary. There is the sect of Allah & there is the sect of Shaytan. As it's mentioned in the last ayah of surah Al-Mujadilah.There is the sect of Allah & there is the sect of Shaytan. Sects Very. So whoever adheres to the Quran & the Sunnah is with the party of Allah. And whoever is on the wrong path belongs to the path of Shaytan.

And you choose whether you would like to be among the sect of Allah, or that of sect of Shaytan. Choose,

Na'am(yes).

The Salafi Dawah DOES NOT cause Division! | Shaykh Muhammad Nasiruddin Al Albani said: " Verily, those who blame us & say that you cause division(within the ummah). I ask them, we divide what from what? We are the callers to the Quran & Sunnah upon the Methodology(Mnahaj) of the Righteous Pious Predecessors (salaf). So are you with us? If he says, "I am with you", then we haven't caused division. However, if he says "I am not with you", then you are the one who divided from us".

🎧Listen here: Does the Word 'Salafi' Divide the People? | Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan

The Question was Asked to Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan that:

Some of the "callers" - may Allah guide them - claim that the word "Salafi" divides the people, so do not say " I am Salafi".

The Shaykh replied: "Yes, the term 'salafi' divides the people - it divides between the salafis & the people of innovation & misguidance. Alhamdullilah this is a merit, for a person to be practicing the methodology of the Salaf [Pious Predecessors].

Allah says " And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. And it was not for us to associate anything with Allah".[Quran 12:38]

Following the Salaf in the belief is a privillege & a compliment, so we are proud of that & we ask Allah to truly make us of those who are upon the methodology of the salaf & grant us firmness upon it.

Even if the people leave us, our main objective is not to merely gain followers, we call them to the methodology of the salaf & the correct belief. If they accept it, Alhamdullilah, but if they don't, they have to deal with the decisions they made for themselves".

Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan on Saying 'I Am Salafi'

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzaan was asked in his lesson on Sharh Fath al-Majeed (23/04/1434H) (MP3):

فضيلة الشيخ وفقكم الله يقول : يقول بعض طلبة العلم إنه لا ينبغي لأحد أن يقول أنا سلفي لأن في هذا تزكية للنفس فهل ما يقوله صحيح ؟

Esteemed Shaykh, may Allah grant you success, he (the questioner) says: Some of the students of knowledge say it is not desirable for anyone to say 'I am Salafi' because this is commendation of oneself. Is it correct what he says?

To which he replied:

إذا كان يقول هذا من باب تزكية نفسه لا يجوز هذا نعم ، اما إذا كان يقوله من باب البيان لأنه بين أحزاب وجماعات مخالفة ويتبرأ منهم ، ويقول أنا سلفي أنا على منهج السلف من باب البراءة هذا طيب ، نعم

"If he says this from the angle of commending himself, it is not permissible. Yes, as for when he says it from the angle of clarifying, because he is amidst the various opposing parties and groups and (desires) to free himself from them, and says 'I am Salafi, I am upon the methodology of the Salaf' from the angle of freeing himself (from them), then this is good. Yes".

Saying I'm Salafi by Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan - Masjid DarruSunnah

Questioner:

What is the ruling on identifying as the follower of the salaf by saying: "I'm Salafi", intending by that to inform about oneself, not self praise.

The person says this due to a multitude of those who oppose the methodology of the salaf & the existence of numerous groups & sects?

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan replied: "if he says this out of self praise, then this is not permissible. But if he has a reason for saying this & identifies as a follower of the salaf by saying: "I'm Salafi" i.e a situation arises in which these methodologies or ideologies are mentioned & he then says: "No. I adhere to the methodology of the salaf" or "I'm salafi & I'm free from these things" then he has a valid reason & there is no problem in this.

As for saying it out of boastfulness & self praise without a reason, then this is not permissible. This country(Saudi Arabia) and All praise is due to Allah - wholly identifies with the methodology of the salaf. Even though there are those who oppose it or have changed for the worst, but this is rare. Consideration is given to the majority & the majority of the country is on the methodology of the salaf, & all praise is due to Allah."

End of Speech

Note: from the above speech of Shaykh country refer as Saudi Arabia.

We love & praise Saudi because there is no Open Shirk like Temples, Dargah(Grave worshipping), Churches & so on at the moment. But are they Perfect? The answer is big, No. They are not angels. They have good and bad in them but a lot of goodness is there. From my experience, those who hate Saudi Arabia love open shirk or he's from Ahlebidah or from people of desire(Ahle Hawa).

In the same way any Muslim country where there is no open shirk I love & praise them for this. As for speaking openly against any muslim leaders, is not from Sunni Beliefs while I'm living here in Nepal in my comfort zone. If you want to confront Muslim leaders, go speak to them directly face to face not by spreading assumption, hate, lies, slander, and misinformation on the internet behind the screen. Who did this? Musa(Mosis) Peace be upon him did to king Pharoh, Allah said go & speak to Pharaoh [Surah Taha 43-44], second prophet advise to Muslim to speak ruler directly & Imam Ibne Taymiyah did it.We'll discuss more later in this guide about Kharijites and speaking against any Muslim Ruler from Major Scholars & the understanding of Salaf.

2.Why people turn away from truth?

Shaykh Salih Al Shaykh or Saleh bin Abdul-Aziz Al ash-Sheikh(born in 1959, Riyadh) mentions people don't accept the truth, boils down to two main factors:

1. Psychological factors

2. Social factors

Psychological factors are related to how human think, matters of Kalb(Heart) like:

  • arrogance
  • attitude
  • deep hatred
  • he thinks how am I wrong which I have been doing for a long time
  • he prefer majority over truth(Herd mentality)[1]
  • he thinks how am I wrong when the majority of people around me have a similar understanding of Islamic beliefs, especially understanding of Tawheed & Allah's Names and attributes or for non-muslim is his religion
  • his forefathers had the same beliefs
  • he look down upon people of truth
  • he rejects it because the one who is presenting him has personal issues with him like jealousy, supremacy & so on.

Social factors are related to communities, personal life, popularity, business like:

  • If I accept the truth, maybe my own family will be against me
  • he has a high status among people & he thinks people will not come to me or respect me
  • he has fame, people look up to him & by accepting Islam, he might lose followers
  • he has a business & he knows if I accept, It will have a bad effect on my business
  • he feels afraid that people will boycott me
  • he thinks it can be a problem to give a daughter to someone for marriage
  • he thinks his personal issues are greater issue than accepting Islam (truth) & so on
  • accepting the truth might trigger disturbance & discomfort among people especially when your core understanding doesn't match with a lot of people around you

Many times in the Speakers Corner, Dawah Table & in the Masjid Shamshi from DUS Dawah mention these two main factors why Muslims & non-muslims turn away from the truth.

AND,

If you read the Qur'an you'll find the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) guides people and in other places, you'll find Prophet has no control over guidance so there are two types of guidance one is purely from Allah & second through preaching.

Guidance(هداية) is of two kinds:[2]

a) Guidance of Taufiq & it's totally from Allah i.e. Allah opens one's heart to receieve the truth(from disbelief to belief in Islamic Monotheism).

b) Guidance of Irshad through preaching by Allah's Messangers & pious preachers who preach the truth, i.e Islamic Monotheism.

Quran 28:56 - "Verily you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) guide not whom you like, but Allâh guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided."

Quran 2:272 - "Not upon you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) is their guidance, but Allâh guides whom He wills. And whatever you spend in good, it is for yourselves, when you spend not except seeking Allâh’s Countenance. And whatever you spend in good, it will be repaid to you in full, and you shall not be wronged."

Quran 5:16 - "Wherewith Allâh guides all those who seek His Good Pleasure to ways of peace, and He brings them out of darkness by His Will unto light and guides them to the Straight Way (Islâmic Monotheism)."

Quran 29:18 - ""And if you deny, then nations before you have denied (their Messengers). And the duty of the Messenger is only to convey (the Message) plainly.""

3. Manners

"Our Salaf(Pious Predecessors or Al-Salaf Al-Saliheen) used to learn manners as they would learn the knowledge."

What are Manners and sincerity?

Manner: a way in which a thing is done or happens.

Sincerity(Ikhlas): the absence of pretence(an attempt to make something that is not the case appear true.), deceit(the action or practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth.), or hypocrisy(duplicity).

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-‘Uthaymin said " Many people are righteous as far as it concerns themselves & are steadfast. They perform the prayers(salah), they fast & give charity yet they fall short when it comes to manners. And from the best deed is having fine manners" [listen to the full audio 👉🏼 The Muslims Are One In Their Manners and Interaction! | Shaykh Muhammed ibn Salih al-‘Uthaymin ]

Abu Hurayra(رضي الله عنه‎) reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "I was sent to perfect good character."

[ Sahih (Al-Albani) Al-Adab Al-Mufrad[3], no. 273, saheeh]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jaujiya (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ) writes: The Islam itself is entirely good character, so whoever surpasses(excel) in character, has surpassed you in Islam [ Madārij al-Sālikīn[4] 2/294 ]

Inviting to Good Manners Firstly is not the correct way when giving Dawah

Calling to Good Manners Firstly - By Shaykh Saalih Al-Fowzaan

One of the great senior scholars of this era, Shaykh Saalih ibn Fowzaan al-Fowzaan (may Allaah preserve him), was asked:

Is this manner of da’wah (Islamic propagation) correct: One that begins by inviting the people to good manners at first?

The shaykh responded by saying: "No, this is misguidance, a contradiction to the da’wah of the Messengers. This is the call of the hizbees (bigoted sectarians) nowadays. It is a false da’wah, because it is contradictory to the methodology of the Messengers.
What they (really) desire is that people remain upon their (various) beliefs, whether they are (the beliefs of) the Qubooriyyah (gravesite fanatics), idol-worship, or sufism. What is important (to them) is just to gather the people together, merely for the sake of following them (i.e. their group) exclusively".

Ikhlas(Sincerity) in Islam means to be free from Shirk.

What is Ikhlaas (Sincerity) - Shaykh Fawzaan

Question: What is the meaning of Ikhlaas? And if a servant intents something else with his worship, what is the ruling [on that]?

"Ikhlaas means to be free from Shirk. That the person's deeds, his intention & goal are sincerely for Allah's Countenance(The Mighty & Majestic) neither to associate partners with Allah through them (i.e intentions & deeds) nor to show off(in order to be seen) or to be heard.
Neither aiming (to please) other than Allah through his intention & deeds nor seeking duniya(i.e. worldly materials) nor the praise of people, thus a deed becomes one sincerely for Allah's sake because Allah doesn't accept deeds, except those that are sincerely(done) for his Countenance."[by Allahma Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan]

Two Types of Manners:

1. Manners with Allah first, then

2. Manners with Allah's Creation(people)

Why Manners with Allah first?

👉🏼 The short answer is: You see both muslims & non-muslims have good & bad manners but at the end beliefs especially in oneness of Allah(Tawheed) comes first because having correct Islamic beliefs will save us from eternal fire. Aqidah(Belief) comes first if only you knew. listen here 👉🏼 Aqidah is the Most Important Thing | Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan

👉🏼 He reported God’s messenger as saying, “If anyone meets God, not having treated anything as equal to Him in the world, and has committed sins equal in quantity to the mountains, God will forgive him.” [Baihaqi transmitted it in Kitab al-ba'th wan-nushur.Reference : Mishkat al-Masabih 2362]

👉🏼 Murrah narrated from Abdullāh Ibn Mas’ūd (radiyallāhu ’anhu) that he said: ”Allah has divided manners between you just as he divided your provision. Verily, Allah gives wealth to whom He loves and whom He does not loves—but He does not bestow Īmān(faith) except upon whom He loves.

So whoever feels miserly about giving his wealth in charity, and he fears fighting the enemy in battle and he is reluctant to wake up and pray the night prayer, then he should [at least] plentifully say:

Lā ilāha illallāh, wa subhānallāh, wal-hamdulillāh, wallāhu akbar.”

[Reported by Al-Bukhāri in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, no. 275, graded saheeh by Al-Albāni in As-Saheehah, no. 2714. This narration is marfoo’, i.e., ascribed as the saying of Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ’alaihi wasallam).

From the above narration, Allah gives wealth to the righteous and the wicked, those He loves and does not love, but He does not bestow imān except upon those whom He loves.

👉🏼 The Prophet Muhammad(salallāhu ’alaihi wasallam) started his Dawah first with Tawheed, calling people to worship Allah alone & avoid shirk. At the time of prophet, people used to do shirk in various forms but nowadays layman muslim think, idol worship is the only shirk.Read quran with translation, you'll find the kuffar used to do shirk in different ways like worshipping idols, worshipping righteous people, worshipping stars, stones, sun, moon, angels & so on.You can find more in detail in tawheed part of this guide. Shirk is NOT ONLY Worshipping Idols! | Shaykh Salih Al Fawzan

👉🏼 When the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) sent Mu’aath ibn Jabal (may Allaah be pleased with him) to Yemen, he told him:
“Verily, you are going to a people from Ahlul-Kitaab (i.e. the Jews and Christians), so let the first thing you invite them to be to worship Allaah alone. If they understand that (and accept it), then inform them that Allaah has ordained upon them five daily prayers. If they pray, then inform them that Allaah has ordained upon them the payment of zakaat from their wealth, taken from their rich and given back to their poor. If they agree to that, then take (zakaat) from them, but abstain from the people’s best (most expensive) belongings.”[Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

👉🏼 Many Muslims today incorrectly assume that, since manners are highly stressed in Islaam, we should make them our priority when giving da’wah. There is a difference between giving da’wah with good manners and beginning one’s da’wah by inviting to good manners.

👉🏼 Making good manners the focus and priority of da’wah causes us to resemble the Christians, whose great Prophet and Messenger called them to worship Allaah alone from his very first words after birth, announcing himself as a worshipper of Allaah alone! [Soorah Maryam, 19:30-36] However, you find modern Christians explaining their religion as merely good morals and manners. Not only have they taken towheed out of the priorities of their da’wah, they have removed it from the religion altogether! Muslims must be wise enough to learn from the mistakes of the people who came before us. We must not follow in their footsteps into the traps of Shaytaan.

👉🏼 Every Muslim is a daa’ee (caller, one who invites to Islaam), through his/her actions and behavior, and we are all required to implement Islaam properly in our lives and be good examples of Muslims. However, it is not correct to say that any Muslim knows enough to get involved in organized da’wah work and outreach programs. How often we see ignorant Muslims who wish to serve their Religion cause extensive harm and corruption in the name of da’wah! Knowledge must come before this kind of da’wah work. We must shun the corrupt form of “do-it-yourself” da’wah, independent of the scholars of Islaam and their advice and direction.

👉🏼 From above narration and many other clear evidences, we learn that the focus and priority of the da’wah of the Prophet Muhammad (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) was to tawheed. Other essential matters of the Religion were presented only after people accept towheed.

Manners with Allah is to purify yourself from shirk or means of shirk & worship Allah sincerely according to Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) sunnah.

Narrated Abu Musa:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The Mamluk (slave) who worships his Lord in a perfect manner, and is dutiful, sincere and obedient to his Saiyid (master), will get a double reward." [Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 2551]

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Goodness and comfort are for him who worships his Lord in a perfect manner and serves his master sincerely." [Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 2549]

Manners with Allah's Creation (Muslim & Non Muslim)

As above mention, Prophet Muhammad(peace-be-upon-him) came to perfect good character.

Imam Muhammad Al-Bukhari( was a 9th-century Muslim muhaddith who is widely regarded as the most important hadith scholar in the history of Sunni) compiled a book on manners called Al-Adab Al-Mufrad(good behaviour singled out).

In this book, you'll get authentic teaching of Nabi(Alayhi As-salam) on Manners with parents, neighbours, childrens, elders & so on.

An-Nawwas bin Sam'an (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Piety is good manner, and sin is that which creates doubt and you do not like people to know of it." [Muslim Reference: Riyad as-Salihin 589]

Prioritize your Manners (adab)

Imagine, your parents take care all of your life & when you grow up, you start making money & you abandon your parents but you are known to take care of others. Is it good manner? The answer is yes but you are missing one of the most important things which is priorities.Be good to others but be good to your parents first, same way you should be good to your lord(Allah) first.

And, we all live our life in priority.Same way we have priorities of Manners in Islam

1.Adab(Manners) with Allah
2.Adab(Manners) with Prophet Muhammad (peace-be-upon-him)
3.Adab(Manners) with Muslims

4.Adab(Manners) with Non-Muslims

4. Knowledge With Scholars

"Knowledge Comes First Before Speech & Action" - Imām Muhammad al-Bukhāri

4.1 Knowledge Preceds Statement and Action

Al-Bukhari Said: "Chapter: Knowledge comes before speech & action"

In everything, even in the worldly sense [Mention by Shaykh Hasan As-Somali(Student of Imam Muqbil Hadi Al Wadee) on DUS Dawah channel]

Mu'awiyah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of Deen." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim Reference: Riyad as-Salihin 1376]

Shaykh Muqbil Hadee Al-Wadee (raḥimahullāh) who is a Major Scholars from Yemen said: "The opposite can also be said to be the truth, that whomsoever Allāh does not want good for is not given knowledge".

If you notice the above hadith of Mu'awiyah (May Allah be pleased with him) where Prophet Said Allah bestows understanding of religion when Allah wishes good for someone. Here it's the understanding of deen, not the religious text i.e. Quran & Sunnah itself only. Not every understanding is correct & knowledge is a profession that demands correct understanding.

The statement Imām al-Bukhāri is a benefit extract from the statement of Allāh:

فَٱعۡلَمۡ أَنَّهُ ۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لِذَنۢبِكَ

So know (O Muḥammad) that Lā ilāha illā-allāh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allāh) and ask forgiveness.
[Sūrah Muḥammad, 47: 19]

From the above Ayah in Surah Muhammad, we clearly understand that: Allāh began with knowledge first and then ordered that after the attainment of this knowledge, the seeking of forgiveness comes.

Shaykh ul-Islam Ibn Taymīyyah al-Ḥarrānī (raḥimahullāh) brings in the muqaddimah of Uṣūl al-Tafsīr the narration: we did not go beyond ten āyah in memorizing the Qurʾān until we understood them and then acted upon them and taught them to others, we were given knowledge and action.

It is narrated on the authority of Sufyan b. 'Abdulla al-Thaqafi that he said:

I asked the Messenger of Allah to tell me about Islam a thing which might dispense with the necessity of my asking anybody after you. In the hadith of Abu Usama the (words) are: other than you. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: Say I affirm my faith in Allah and then remain steadfast to it. [Sahih Muslim 38, Reference : Hadith 21, 40 Hadith an-Nawawi]

Based upon this ḥadīth above, why would a person ask if this was an evidence one should seek knowledge before action? It is because he wanted to gain knowledge from the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) before implementing it, so the question came first.

Shaykh ʿAbd al-Muḥsin al-ʿAbbād was asked concerning the narration: ‘O Rasūl Allāh, inform me of something regarding the religion of Islam I cannot ask anyone besides you.’ The questioner asked regarding this narration: ‘Is this ḥadīth an evidence that one should seek knowledge first before acting?’

The shaykh answered (and this can be found in his explanation of Imām al-Nawawī’s 40 Ḥadīth): "There is no doubt that knowledge precedes action and statement, as Imām al-Bukhārī has written in his chapter heading: Knowledge Precedes Statement and Action.

A person’s actions must be based upon knowledge, Allāh mentions in Sūrah al-ʿAsr ‘Those who believe and do righteous actions’, i.e. having firm belief upon knowledge (ʿilm) and not jahl (ignorance).

First comes belief then actions. And what do they do after working righteous deeds? They advise one another in truth and patience, spreading benefit to others".

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb (raḥimahullāh) in Uṣūl al-Thalāthah mentions from the affairs which are obligatory upon every Muslim first is knowledge, and that is knowledge of Allāh, knowledge of His Messenger, knowledge of Islam with proofs; after the accumulation of this knowledge then comes action upon it, then calling others to it, and finally patience upon bearing the harms encountered upon calling to this dīn.

the ʿUlamāʾ(Scholars) have taught Uṣūl al-Thalāthah of Imām Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb for many years and each time they teach it they bring forth a new benefit. This is an important and foundational book which we should be learning and teaching our families and returning back to over and over again due to its immense benefits.

Shaykh Zayd ibn Hadee al-Madkhalee said in the explanation of the "Book of Knowledge" from Sahih Al-Bukhari that: Imam Bukhari began mentioning knowledge & that: "The scholars are the inheritors of the prophets," & that: "... they leave behind knowledge; so he who takes it has taken an enormous share."

He also mention, he who combines knowledge & action with sincerity is amongst those upon whom grace has been bestowed, those whom Allah is mentioned & his statement is the truth:

And whoso obey Allâh and the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allâh has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqûn (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr As-Siddîq (رضي الله عنه), the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are![Quran Surah Nisha 4:69 — Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali & Muhammad Muhsin Khan]

And those who know but do not act traverse on the path of those upon whom is anger, who are the jews. Those who worship Allah based on ignorance have traverse the path of those who are astray, who are the christians. Since the affair is like this, then it is a must that knowledge precede speech and action. Due to this Allah, has commanded the Noblest of His Creation(Prophet Muhammad), by way of revelation to him:

فَاعۡلَمۡ اَنَّهٗ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَاسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لِذَنۡۢبِكَ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ وَ الۡمُؤۡمِنٰتِ ؕ وَاللّٰهُ يَعۡلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمۡ وَمَثۡوٰٮكُمۡ

So know (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) that, Lâ ilâha illallâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh), and ask forgiveness for your sin, and also for (the sin of) believing men and believing women. And Allâh knows well your moving about, and your place of rest (in your homes).[Surah Muhammad 47:19 — Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali & Muhammad Muhsin Khan]

From the above verse of Surah Muhammad, Allah mention knowledge before speech & action.

Speaking Without Knowledge: Allaah warns every Muslim against speaking without knowledge, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

And follow not (O man i.e., say not, or do not or witness not) that of which you have no knowledge. Verily! The hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those one will be questioned (by Allâh).[Surah Al-Israa' 17:36]

4.2 What is Knowledge

Shaykh Ṣalaḥ al-ʿUthaymīn says: Linguistically Knowledge is the opposite of ignorance.

The Shaykh also mentions: that it is to firmly comprehend a matter upon its reality. Its definition as it relates to Istilāḥ in the Sharīʿah refers to the knowledge revealed by Allāh to the Messenger (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), i.e the two revelations, the Qurʾān, and the Sunnah, which also came by way of revelation. And that which is considered as knowledge which is praiseworthy is the knowledge of revelation.

Knowledge is not just a word or statement that you utter from your mouth as your desire tells you.

Knowledge(Ilm) is what Allah said, Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him said & Companion Said.

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jaujiya (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ) said: "Ignorance is a deadly disease & the cure for it is two things 1. Proof from the Qur'an or from the Sunnah, and 2.who is the doctor for this medicine is well-grounded scholars".[Ash-Shaafiyatul-Kaafiyah]

The Prophet peace be upon him said: "The only cure for ignorance is to ask/inquiry". [Reference : Mishkat al-Masabih 531, 532, Sunan Abi Dawud 336]

Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan Said: "The Student of Knowledge should give Dawah in their area & connect Muslims to Scholars so that they can ask question to Scholars".

Shaikhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (died 728 AH, rahimahullaah) said:

Yahyaa Ibn `Ammaar said: Knowledge is of five kinds:

1. Knowledge that is the life of the World, and that is of the knowledge of Tawheed (the worship of Allaah alone, without any partners).

2. Knowledge that is the nourishment of the Religion, and that is the knowledge of reflecting upon the meanings of the Qur’aan and Hadeeth.

3. Knowledge that is the remedy of the Religion, and that is the knowledge of Fatwa; so if there befalls upon a worshipping servant an unexpected affliction, then he is in need of someone to cure him from that as Ibn Mas’ood said.

4. Knowledge that is the disease of the Religion, and that is the innovated and newly introduced speech.

5. Knowledge that is the destruction of the Religion, and that is the knowledge of magic and such things.

[Al-Fataawa, 10/145.]

Who is Yahyaa Ibn `Ammaar?

He is Abu Zakariyaa Yahyaa Ibn `Ammaar ash-Shaybaanee, a resident of Haraat (a resident is called a Harawee), Khurasaan – modern day Herat in Afghanistan. He was an Imaam, Muhaddith and an admonisher in sermons. He was formidably skilful in Tafseer and the Sunnah. He died at the age of ninety. See Siyar A`laam an-Nubalaa 17/481, and Shadharaat adh-Dhahab 3/226.

Another famous Harawee is Shaikh al-Islaam Abu Ismaa`eel `Abdullaah Ibn Muhammad al-Ansaaree al-Harawee (born 396AH, rahimahullaah), from the lineage of the Companion Abu Ayyoob al-Ansaaree (radiyallaahu `anhu). He is the author of tremendous book Dhammul-Kalaam – a book in which he refuted the Ash`arees from ninety different angles!

Knowledge is an attribute. It doesn't exist by itself. It has to be embedded in something. Have you ever seen knowledge walking on the street? For example, when knowledge is attributed to someone we say this person is knowledgeable.[Mention by Shamshi at Speakers Corner who is Algerain Teacher at Masjid Darrusunnah(DUS Dawah)]

In Islam, Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said, Scholars(Ulama) are inheritors of prophets. And No doubt, Islamic knowledge is found within the chest of scholars. As the prophet said, "Knowledge will be taken away by the death of scholars." There are different levels of scholars & students of knowledge. In the time of Fitan, we go back to the Major Scholars who are old in age & knowledge like Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan, Imam Rabi Hadi Al-Madhkhalee, Shaykh Raslan. When Prophet Muhammad (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) passed away, Muslims rush towards Imam Abu Bakr Siddique (رضي الله عنه‎) even though Imam Omar (رضي الله عنه‎) is also from major scholars but Imam Abu Bakr is senior. That's why the scholars derived from this hadith that: In times of fitnah we should go back to the senior scholars who are old in age & knowledge. But unfortunately, today's calamity(Musibah) is when we see young Muslims in knowledge speak from their desire without referring back to scholars.

Misguided & Foolish Young Muslim: Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] said, “I heard the truthful and trusted by Allah [i.e., the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)] saying, “The destruction of my Ummah will be through the hands of young men from Quraish”[Sahih al-Bukhari 7058]

Ali Bin Abi Talib [may Allah be pleased with him] said, “No doubt I heard Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] saying, “During the last days there will appear some young foolish people who will say the best words but their faith will not go beyond their throats (i.e. they will have no faith) and will go out from (leave) their religion as an arrow goes out of the game. So, wherever you find them, kill them, for whoever kills them shall have a reward on the Day of Resurrection.”[Sahih al-Bukhari 6930]

Ali [may Allah be pleased with him] said: Whenever I narrate to you anything from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) believe it to be absolutely true as falling from the sky is dearer to me than that of attributing anything to him (the Holy Prophet) which he never said. When I talk to you of anything which is between me and you (there might creep some error in it) for battle is an outwitting. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: There would arise at the end of the age a people who would be young in age and immature in thought, but they would talk (in such a manner) as if their words are the best among the creatures. They would recite the Qur’an, but it would not go beyond their throats, and they would pass through the religion as an arrow goes through the prey. So when you meet them, kill them, for in their killing you would get a reward with Allah on the Day of Judgement. [Sahih Muslim 1066a]

Note: Killing Khariji & Apostate(Murtad) goes back to the Muslim leaders and scholars. And there are various types of Khariji.

In short: Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Baz said: The khawaarij are a (misguided) group that have extreme views. They are diligent in religious matters; they have diligence with regards to prayer, reading and other than that. However, they have extreme views: they declare sinful Muslims to be disbelievers (i.e. takfir).

According to Imam Bin Baz (Rahimahullah), the correct view is that they(the khawarij) are kafir(disbelievers).

Ibn Taymiyyah: Knowledge in the Religion is Five: Life, Nourishment, Remedy, Disease & Destruction.

4.3 Knowledge is a weapon

Imam Muhammad Ibne Salih Al-Uthaymin (Rahimahulla) said: "Knowledge is a weapon. Either it's for you. Or it is against you. When does it become for you? If you act upon it & it will be against you, if you didn't act upon it. The prophet Muhammad (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said: 'The Quran is a proof for you or against you.'[Reference : Hadith 23, 40 Hadith an-Nawawi, Sahih Muslim 223]

4.4 Information Vs Knowledge

Both the terms usually share same meaning but there is a slight difference. According to me, Information is the source of subjects while knowledge refers to the organized collection of information with correct understanding. For example, Not every source is Islamic information & not every piece of knowledge is the correct understanding. Our primary Islamic source is the Quran & Hadith which demand correct understanding from the inheritors of prophets(i.e. Scholars).

4.5 Knowledge is Compulsory on Every Muslim

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim, and he who imparts knowledge to those who do not deserve it, is like one who puts a necklace of jewels, pearls and gold around the neck of swines."

What Is The Sufficient Amount Of Knowledge Upon A Muslim To Learn? | Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Al-Fawzān

The presenter asked Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan: What is the sufficient amount of knowledge that is upon the student of knowledge to learn? And should he continue to seek knowledge, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh replied: "The Muslim must - as an individual obligation - learn what will make his deen(Islam) upright, such as his Creed(Aqidah/Belief), Salah(Prayer), Zakat(Charity), Fasting(Sawm), Hajj(Pilgrimage) & Umrah.

He must learn about the five pillars of Islam.

And whatever is in addition to that is a communal obligation; when a sufficient number of people carry it out, there is no sin on the rest. And when they all leave it, they are all sinful Na'am(yes)".

When is a Person Excused by way of Ignorance? || Shaikh Salīh al-Fawzān

Question: When is a person excused by way of ignorance?

Shaykh Salih Al Fawzan Said: "A person is excused by way of ignorance if he resided in the "majahil" of the Earth, (lands that are remote, isolated, obscure etc) & no Dawah (the call to Islam) reached him, nor the Quran or Sunnah, so he is excused by way of ignorance".

4.6 Ignorance Is a Deadly Disease - Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jaujiya (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ)

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jaujiya (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ) said: "Ignorance is a deadly disease & the cure for it is two things 1. Proof from the Qur'an or from the Sunnah, and a 2. And who is the doctor for this medicine is well-grounded scholars".[Ash-Shaafiyatul-Kaafiyah]

4.7 Purpose of Seeking Knowledge

How to Become a Scholar?

Shamshi(Teacher at Masjid DarruSunnah) from the UK, London said: "We don't seek knowledge to become a scholar".

One brother asks a question to shamshi at speakers corner, Hyde Park, UK-London: "How can I become a scholar?"

Our teacher Shamshi said:" We don't seek knowledge to become a scholar.

We seek knowledge to remove ignorance from ourselves first.

Imam Ahmad Rahimahullah was asked: 'What is the meaning of seeking knowledge sincerely for Allah.' Imam Ahmad said 'to have Sincerity(Ikhlas) & Intention(Niyah) to remove ignorance from yourself & to worship Allah based upon knowledge'.

Then Alhamdullilah expanding, expanding & expanding but it's not just about a scholar. Allah raise people, there are some people memorized many books but Allah never raised them because there is no sincerity(Ikhlas).

Imam Malik Rahimahullah when he wrote a book called "Muwatta", someone came to him & said to Imam Malik, O Imam someone else has written a book called "Muwatta", Imam Malik said, whatever it has been written for Allah sincerely, will remain & the only book that we know today is "Muwatta" by Imam Malik. SubhanAllah! so it is sincerely brothers.

One of the calamities that I(shamshi) mention to people is that, they(people) refer me a scholar that what we know we are at the end of time. Seriously, I'm not just try to be humble myself. To be humble is good but we have to be realistic with ourselves, how on the earth you call me(shamshi) a scholar?

If you wanna know what is the meaning of a scholar, read the biography of scholars like Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Baz, Imam Muhammad Nasiruddin Al-Albani, Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al ash-Sheikh(teacher of Imam bin Baz), Imam Muhammad al-Ameen ash-Shinqeeti that's when you know the meaning of scholar.

When you read their biographies then you know shamshi is a little guy.Wallahi.This is reality, how on the earth you call me ascholar, doesn't make any sense.

BarakAllah Feekum.Have that Intention" - End of Speech

Reference Lets Unite Upon Haq Channel(link: don't call me a scholar - shamshi )

Note: For those who record speaker's corner videos, I only take Shamshi & Anwar speech because of praise of salafi publication from scholars. And they are from Spubs network.

The purpose of seeking knowledge is not to become a scholar rather it should be to remove ignorance from ourselves first & to worship Allah alone based on knowledge.

From the Quran, Sunnah, Salaf & understanding of scholars, we know that: the purpose of seeking knowledge should be first to remove ignorance from ourselves, to save ourselves from hellfire, to save our families against a fire, to worship Allah alone based upon knowledge with sincerity(Ikhlas).

Below are the Quranic Verses, Hadith, Scholars understanding on purpose of seeking Islamic Knowledge:

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said, "He who does not acquire knowledge with the sole intention of seeking the Pleasure of Allah but for worldly gain, will not smell the fragrance of Jannah on the Day of Resurrection." [Abu Dawud].

Grade: Hasan (Darussalam)

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that when the Prophet (ﷺ) performed the Subh (morning prayer), while he said the Salam, he would say: ‘Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman nafi’an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amalan mutaqabbalan (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision and acceptable deeds).’”

Sunan Ibn Majah 925

Chapter 32: What is to be said after the Salam, Book 5: Establishing the Prayer and the Sunnah Regarding Them

Grade: Sahih (Darussalam)

Nine means of attaining sincerity (in seeking knowledge):

1. Having the intention to worship Allāh upon insight and remove ignorance from oneself.

2. Knowing that seeking knowledge is worship.

3. Having the intention of achieving the supplication of the Messenger ﷺ.

4. Seeking to be raised in status with Allāh.

5. Hoping to be from the people of khashyah.

6. Reflecting upon the fact that there is reward in the sittings of knowledge.

7. Seeking to be from the best and most noble of people to Allāh, not the people.

8. Intending to transmit the Sunnah of the Messenger ﷺ to the one who is ignorant regarding it.

9. Intending to be from those whom the creation makes du’ā/seeks forgiveness for.[The Six Stages of Seeking Knowledge According to the Scholars of the Sunnah]

What is sincerity and what is correct?

And He, the Blessed and Most High, said:

“He (Allah) who has created death and life that He may test which of you is best in performing deeds. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving.” (Al-Mulk: 2)

It was said to Abu ‘Ali Al-Fudayl bin ‘Iyād (d. 187H):

“O Abu ‘Ali, what is the meaning of ‘best in deeds’? He replied: ‘To make it sincere and correct.’

He was asked: ‘What is meant by making it sincere and correct?’

He replied: ‘If a deed is done sincerely but not correctly, it will not be accepted. And if it is done correctly but not sincerely, it will not be accepted―until it is done both sincerely and correctly.’

It was said: ‘O Abu ‘Ali, what is sincerity and what is correct?’

He replied: ‘Sincerity is that the deeds is done purely for Allah and correct is that it is done according to the Sunnah.'”

Al-Imām Ibn Bāz (rahimahullāh) commented on these words of Fudayl bin ‘Iyād (rahimahullāh) said:

فالاهتمام بإحسان العمل أعظم وأوْلى من الكثرة، فكون المؤمن يهتم بإخلاص العمل وتنقيته من الرياء وغيره من أنواع الشرك، ويهتم بمُطابقته للشريعة، وألا يكون فيه ابتداعٌ؛ هذا أهم من الكثرة

“Making the deed correct (according to the Sunnah) is more important than quantity―and the servant must give importance to performing the deed sincerely for Allah and purifying it from riyā (i.e. showing off to impress the people) and other than that from the categories of Shirk.

So a person is to give importance to making sure the deed complies with the Sharī’ah and that is free from innovation―that is more important that quantity.”

Pronouncing the Intention Before Commencement of All Acts of Worship – Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan

Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan (hafidahullah) was asked:

In our country, we know that every act of worship must have an intention for it. Due to this, then it’s a must to pronounce the intention before commencing the prayer (or any other act of worship). So, if this is not allowed, or is an innovation, then what is the meaning of the hadeeth: “Verily actions are by intentions…”?

The Shaykh answered:

Yes. Every action requires an intention, due to the hadeeth that you mentioned; that the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said

“Verily actions are by intentions, and for every person is what he intended.”

However the meaning (of this) is not to pronounce the intention verbally. The meaning is that you believe and intend with your heart, the performance of worship sincerely for Allah (azza wa jal)- and suffice with this.

Therefore the place of intention is the heart and not the tongue. Pronouncing the intention is an innovation, because it is not (authentically) established from the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam); or from his Rightly-Guided Caliphs; or his Companions; or the Virtuous Generations.

It is not established that they would pronounce the intention, for indeed the place of intention is only the heart. Allah says:

Say: “Will you inform Allâh of your religion While Allâh knows all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and Allâh is All-Aware of everything”. (Al-Hujuraat: 16)

So, if you intend with your heart, then Allah knows; and he does not need that you pronounce (your intention) with your tongue.

[Slightly paraphrased from Majmoo’ Fataawa of Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan (hafidahullah) Vol. 2 Page 675 by SalafiCenter.com]

Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ʿalaihi wasallam) said:

“The first of men who will be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who died as a martyr. He shall be brought forth. Allah will make him recount His blessings which He had bestowed upon him and he will recount them and admit them.

Then Allah will say, ‘What did you do with these blessings?’ He will say, ‘I fought for Your cause until I died as a martyr.’ Allah will say, ‘You have lied. You fought that you might be called a brave warrior. And you were called so.’ Then orders will be passed against him and he will be dragged on his face and cast into Hell.

Then a man will be brought forth who acquired knowledge and imparted it to others and recited the Qur’ān. Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit them.

Then Allah will say, ‘What did you do with these blessings?’ He will respond, ‘I acquired knowledge and disseminated it and recited the Qur’an seeking Your pleasure.’ Allah will say, ‘You have lied. You acquired knowledge so that you might be called a scholar, and you recited the Qur’an so that it may be said, ‘He is a qarī’ and it was said.’ Then orders will be passed against him and he shall be dragged on his face and cast into the Fire.

Then a man will be brought whom Allah had made abundantly rich and had granted every kind of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit to them.

Then Allah will ask him, ‘What have you done with these blessings?’ He will say, ‘I spent money in every cause in which You wished that it should be spent.’ Allah will say to him, ‘You are lying. You did it so that it could be said about you, ‘He is generous and giving’ and it was said.’ Then will Allah pass orders and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.”[Sahih Muslim 1905a]

When Muʿāwiyah (radiyallāhu ʿanhu) heard this narration, he wept.

So the deeds of a person are not accepted unless they are sincere for Allah and in accordance with the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ʿalaihi wasallam). Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullāh) stated that there are four types of people with respect to following the Sunnah (al-ittibāʿ) and being sincere to Allāh (al-ikhlāṣ), three of whom are destroyed:

1. The one who follows the Sunnah but without ikhlāṣ. This one is destroyed.

2. The one who has ikhlāṣ but does not follow the Sunnah. This one is destroyed.

3. The one who has no ikhlāṣ and does not follow the Sunnah. This is the worst and is destroyed.

4. The one who has ikhlāṣ and follows the Sunnah. This one is successful and his deeds are accepted.

Allāh (the Most High) said:

“Say O Prophet, ‘If you should love Allāh, then follow me, then Allāh will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.'”[Āli-ʿImran: 31.]

Abu ʿUbaid (rahimahullāh) said regarding the ḥadīth of actions are only by intentions, “There is no narration of the Prophet (salallāhu ʿalaihi wasallam) more comprehensive, rich and plentiful in benefit than this ḥadīth.”[Muntahā al-Āmāl of al-Suyūtī, p. 42.]

ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Mahdī said about this hadīth, “Whoever wishes to author a book, let him begin with this ḥadīth.”[Muntahā al-Āmāl of al-Suyūtī, p. 43]

O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allâh, but do that which they are commanded.

Who's Successful According to Allah?

Allah said in Quran Surah Al-Imran Verse 185: "And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful".

"Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing)".[Quran 3:185]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jaujiya (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ) said very strange things about this duniya(worldly life). He said: " This Duniya(World) is very strange. Everyone knows they will leave this world soon or later but at the same time, they stick with it hardly".[I don't remember the exact quote from Shamshi(dus dawah) lesson but it was something like this]

Allah said:

"O my people! Truly, this life of the world is nothing but a (quick passing) enjoyment, and verily, the Hereafter that is the home that will remain forever."[Quran Surah Ghafir Verse 39 ]

Ali ibn abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Verily the dunya is coming to an end, and the akhirah is coming to a beginning and they both have children. 5.2 Religious Text itself is not the correct understanding of 'Deen(Islam)'

Mu'awiyah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of Deen." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim Reference: Riyad as-Salihin 1376].

As I said, earlier knowledge is a profession that demands experts who can give you the correct understanding of Islam, especially the belief system.

And from the above Hadith of Mu'awiyah (May Allah be pleased with him), Allah connects the understanding of deen with a person.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Scholars(Ulema) are the inheritors of the prophet & knowledge will be taken away by the death of scholars." The correct understanding of deen is found within the chest of scholars. Allah said: The Scholars(Ulema) among His slaves that fear Allah. Also prophet informed us, about ignorant scholars who will go astray and will lead the people astray.

The Ulema(Scholars) among his slaves fear Allah:

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ وَالدَّوَآبِّ وَالۡاَنۡعَامِ مُخۡتَلِفٌ اَ لۡوَانُهٗ كَذٰلِكَ ؕ اِنَّمَا يَخۡشَى اللّٰهَ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِ الۡعُلَمٰٓؤُا ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَزِيۡزٌ غَفُوۡرٌ‏

And likewise of men and Ad-Dawâbb [moving (living) creatures, beasts], and cattle, are of various colours. It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is All-Mighty, Oft-Forgiving. [Quran Surah Fatir verse 28] Translator:— Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali & Muhammad Muhsin Khan

Ibn Asakir (d.571H) said: "The one who lets loose his tongue agianst the scholars with slander then Allah will afflict him before his actual death by killing his heart."

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said:

This indicates that everyone who fears Allaah has knowledge, which is true; it does not indicate that everyone who has knowledge fears Him.

From Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 7/539.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 17/21:

The meaning of the verse “It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allaah” is that no one fears Him except the one who has knowledge. Allaah tells us that everyone who fears Allaah has knowledge, as He says in another verse (interpretation of the meaning):

“Is one who is obedient to Allaah, prostrating himself or standing (in prayer) during the hours of the night, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the Mercy of his Lord (like one who disbelieves)? Say: ‘Are those who know equal to those who know not?’”

[al-Zumar 39:9]

End quote.

(It is only those who have knowledge among His servants that fear Allah.) meaning, only those who have knowledge truly fear Him as He should be feared, because the more they know about the Almighty, All-Powerful, All-Knowing Who has the most perfect attributes and is described with the most beautiful Names, the more they will fear Him. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas commented on the Ayah:

إِنَّمَا يَخْشَى اللَّهَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْعُلَمَاءُ

(It is only those who have knowledge among His servants that fear Allah.) those who know that Allah is able to do all things. Ibn `Abbas said, "The one among His servants who knows about Ar-Rahman, is the one who does not associate anything in worship with Him; the one who accepts as lawful that which He has permitted and accepts as unlawful that which He has prohibited. He obeys His commands and is certain that he will meet Him and be brought to account for his deeds.

Sa`id bin Jubayr said, "Fear is what stands between you and disobeying Allah, may He be glorified." Al-Hasan Al-Basri said, "The knowledgeable person is the one who fears Ar-Rahman with regard to the Unseen, who likes that which Allah wants him to like, and who shuns that which angers Allah." Then Al-Hasan recited:

إِنَّمَا يَخْشَى اللَّهَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْعُلَمَاءُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ غَفُورٌ

(It is only those among His servants who have knowledge that fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Almighty, Oft-Forgiving.)

Sufyan Ath-Thawri narrated from Abu Hayyan At-Taymi from a man who said, "It used to be said that the knowledgeable are of three types: (first) one who knows Allah and the command of Allah, (second) one who knows Allah but does not know the command of Allah, and (third) one who knows the command of Allah but does not know Allah.

The one who knows Allah and the command of Allah is the one who fears Allah and knows the limits (Hudud) and the obligatory duties (Fara'id). The one who knows Allah but does not know the command of Allah is the one who fears Allah but does not know the limits (Hudud) and the obligatory duties (Fara'id). The one who knows the command of Allah but does not know Allah is the one who knows the limits (Hudud) and the obligatory duties (Fara'id) but does not fear Allah."

[Tafsir Ibn Kathir - Summarized]

Abdullah reported: Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Knowledge is not knowing many narrations. Verily, knowledge is the fear of Allah.” [Rawḍat al-‘Uqalā 9]

Ibn Rajab said, “Knowledge is not memorizing many narrations or sayings, but rather it is a light that Allah places in the heart by which a servant understands the truth and he distinguishes it from falsehood.”[Faḍl ‘Ilm al-Salaf 1/5]

Respect for the scholars

Ibn Mājah reported in his Sunan (no. 9):

ʿAmr bin Shuʿaib narrated that his father said: Muʿāwiyah (radiyallāhu ʿanhu) stood up to deliver a sermon and he said, “Where are your scholars? Where are your scholars? For I heard the Messenger of Allah (salallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam) say: The Hour will not be established until a group of my Ummah is manifest over the people, and they do not care who lets them down, who betrays them or who supports them.Authenticated by Al-Albānī (rahimahullāh) in his checking of Sunan Ibn Mājah (See As-Sahīhah, no. 1165, 1958, 1971)

Due to the steadfastness of the scholars and their fear of Allah, they are not scared of the blame of blamers or the accusations of the ignorant against them. They do not care if they are betrayed, opposed or abandoned. They are the followers and the inheritors of the Prophets, and they know that those who are tried and afflicted the most are the Prophets, then those who resemble them. So they remain firm upon the Truth regardless of the opposition, even when Ahlul-Haqq are few in number.

ʿAbdullāh Ibn Masʿūd (radiyallāhu ʿanhu) explained, “There will not come upon you a day except that it is worse than the day that came before it until the Hour is established. I do not mean in terms of affluence in one’s life or the wealth that one acquires. Rather, there will not come upon you a day except that it will be lesser in knowledge than the day that passed before it. So when the scholars have passed away and died, the people will all be at the same level – so they will not enjoin the good, nor forbid the evil, and at that point, they will be ruined.(Reported by Ad-Dārimī no. 194. Ibn Hajr declared the narration to be good in Fathul-Bārī 13/26-27)

ʿAbdullāh Ibn ʿAmr Ibn Al-ʿĀs said: I heard Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam) saying:

“Allah does not take away the knowledge by taking it away from the hearts of the people, but He takes it away by the death of the Scholars till no Scholar remains. Then people will take as their leaders the ignoramuses who when asked will give their verdict (fatwa) without knowledge. So they will go astray themselves and will lead the people astray.” (Reported by Al-Bukhārī, no. 100) In a wording, he said, “There will remain the ignoramuses from whom verdicts (fatwas) will be sought. They will give verdicts based upon their own opinions, so they will go astray and will lead the people astray.” (Al-Bukhāri no. 7307)

When the scholars are abandoned or they pass away, people turn to the ignorant ones, the pretenders and Ahlul-Bidʿah who lead the people into ruin. Ibn Masʿūd said, “Learn knowledge before it is taken away, and it is taken away by the death of the scholars. Beware of going to extremes and delving too deeply, and beware of innovations. Upon you is to adhere to the ancient affair.” (See Ad-Dārimī with the explanation, Fathul-Mannān 2/115, Al-Musannaf of Abdur-Razzāq 11/252, Jāmiʿ Bayān Al-ʿIlm wa Fadlihi 1/152, Al-‘Amr bil-Ittibāʿ p. 59)

When the scholars are present, knowledge, action and piety are widespread. When the scholars are few and abandoned, and the riff-raff and rabble speak, knowledge diminishes along with deeds and piety. Abu Dharr narrated from Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam):

“You are today in a time of many Scholars and few speakers. So whoever abandons even a tenth of what he knows is ruined. There will come after that a time of many [ignorant] speakers wherein the Scholars are few. So whoever holds fast to even a tenth of what he knows will be saved.” (Sahīh, reported by At-Tirmidhī no. 2267, Ahmad in Al-Musnad no. 21372, Al-Bukhārī in At-Tārīkh no. 2819, Al-Harawī in Dhamm Al-Kalām no. 100, and authenticated by Al-Albānī in As-Sahīhah no. 2510)

So when there are numerous speakers (mostly young, ignorant and reckless), who revile the scholars and belittle their worth; accusing them of being ignorant of current affairs and the reality of Muslim communities and societies, such that the people no longer distinguish between a person of knowledge and the riff-raff who call to misguidance, it is then that they are ruined. In these times within the Western lands, this negativity towards the scholars of Salafiyyah is rampant and widespread – and these mumayyiʿūn, who [falsely] ascribe themselves to the Salafi Manhaj are more harmful to the Salafis (i.e. to Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamā’ah) than the open and apparent Ahlul-Bidʿah, just as Ahlul-Bidʿah are more harmful to the Muslims than the unbelievers.

Ash-Shaikh Al-ʿAllāmah Rabīʿ Ibn Hādī ʿUmayr Al-Madkhalī:

Ash-Shaikh Al-ʿAllāmah Rabīʿ Ibn Hādī ʿUmayr Al-Madkhalī (hafidhahullāh) was asked regarding those who revile the scholars and the callers (du’āt) to the Sunnah, so he answered: “This is a very dangerous matter indeed, meaning: criticising Ahlul-Haqq (those who are upon the Truth) – attacking them leads to attacking and contending with the religion itself because it prevents [people] from the Path of Allah. That is due to the fact that the one who attacks Ahlul-Haqq, the callers to the Truth, the callers to Tawhīd, those who call to fight against shirk, bidʿah and misguidance – attacking them causes one to flee from the Path of Allah (the Blessed and Most High). And you know already what Allah has stated regarding those who opposed and attacked the Prophets. They would attack their callers, not [so much] their individuals. They would say: “He’s a liar, a magician..” and so on from terms of abuse. So if he is reviled in his character, then his da’wah is lost. And this is the case today. The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets. So when a people call to the Salafi Manhaj, to the Book of Allah, to the Sunnah of the Messenger (salallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam), to the Methodology of the Prophets in ʿAqīdah, to fighting against shirk, upon the Methodology of the Prophets, then there come a people [in opposition] reviling them – and this means that they prevent people from the Path of Allah. So we ask Allah that He guides them to repent, and that they return to the Truth, that they recognise the station of the People of Truth (Ahlul-Haqq), and they abandon their stance in front of those who are eager for the Truth so they do not prevent them from the Path of Allah.” (Audio source: Wujūb Al-Ittibāʿ lā Ibtidāʿ from the Shaikh’s website)

The role of the Scholars is crucial in the preservation of the Religion. Allāh’s Messenger (salallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam) stated: “This knowledge will be carried by the trustworthy of every generation. They will expel from it the distortions of those who go to extremes, the lies of the falsifiers, and the interpretations of the ignorant.” (Reported by Ibn Qutaybah in ʿUyūn Al-Akhbār 2/119, Al-Bayhaqī in As-Sunan Al-Kubrā 10/209, Al-Ājurrī in Ash-Sharīʿah no. 1-2, At-Tabrīzī in Mishkāt Al-Masābīh no. 248, Ibn Abdul-Barr in At-Tamhīd 1/59)

Sadīq Hasan Khān (rahimahullāh) said, “The saying of the Messenger, ‘They will expel from it the distortions of those who go to extremes’ means the changes made by those who go beyond bounds in the affair of the Religion. ‘Distortions’ refers to exchanging the Truth for falsehood by them changing the words [of the Revealed Texts] or by changing their meanings. ‘The lies of the falsifiers’ means the scholars will expel the lies of the people of falsehood..” (Ad-Dīn Al-Khālis 3/261) So to attack the scholars is to harm those whom Allah has raised to preserve and guard His Religion against the people of falsehood and desires, and to block people from the Path of Allah.

Abul-Qāsim Ibn ʿAsākir (d. 571H, rahimahullāh):

Abul-Qāsim Ibn ʿAsākir (d. 571H, rahimahullāh) said: “Know, my brother – may Allah guide us and you to His pleasure, and that He makes us from those who fear Him and are dutiful to Him as He deserves – that the flesh of the scholars, may Allah be merciful with them, is poison. And Allah’s established way of tearing down the screen of those who attack the scholars is well-known. That is because attacking them for an affair that they are innocent of is a mighty thing – and to speak of their honour with falsehood and fabrications is an evil and noxious pasture to graze upon!

To concoct falsehood against those whom Allah has chosen to disseminate knowledge is a despicable characteristic. And to emulate those whom Allah has praised; which is the saying of those who followed the believers, that they would seek forgiveness for those who preceded them – that is a noble characteristic. Allah said in His Book, in praise of them:

وَالَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالْإِيمَانِ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ فِي قُلُوبِنَا غِلًّا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ

“And those who came after them say, ‘Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.'”

And the one who lets loose his tongue against the scholars with slander, then Allah will afflict him before his actual death by killing his heart:

فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

“And let those who oppose the Messenger’s commandment beware, lest some Fitnah (affliction) befall them or a painful punishment be inflicted on them.” (See Tabyīn Kadhib Al-Muftarī pp. 28-30)

Imām At-Tahāwī (rahimahullāh) and the narrations from the early Salaf:

Imām At-Tahāwī (rahimahullāh) stated in his ʿAqīdah: “And the scholars of the Salaf, from the early ones and those who came after them from the Tābiʿīn: they are the people of goodness, people of narrations (ahlul-Athar), and people of understanding (ahlul-fiqh) and insight – they are not to be mentioned except with fine and beautiful speech. The one who speaks of them with bad speech is not upon the correct path.”

Ash-Shaikh Al-ʿAllāmah Sālih Al-Fawzān (hafidhahullāh) commented: “The author moves on [from the Sahābah] to mention those who come after them in virtue, and they are the scholars. So the scholars of this Ummah have status and virtue after the Sahābah because they are the inheritors of the Prophets due to the saying of the Messenger, ‘The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets’. And the intent here is the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamā’ah, the people of knowledge, insight and understanding, ahlul-athar, and they are ahlul-hadīth…” (Then the shaikh quotes the statement of Ibn ʿAsākir above).

Abdullah Ibn Mubārak (d. 181H, rahimahullāh) said: “Whoever belittles the scholars has lost his Hereafter. Whoever belittles the rulers has lost his worldly affairs. Whoever belittles his brothers has lost his honour.” (See Siyar of Adh-Dhahabī, 8/408)

Khatīb Al-Baghdādī narrated from Shaʿbī who said: Ibn ʿAbbās took hold of the stirrups of the riding beast of Zayd Ibn Thābit (radiyallāhu ‘anhumā). So Zayd said, “You take hold of them for me whilst you are the son of the uncle of Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam)?” Ibn ʿAbbās replied, “Verily this is how we behave with the scholars.” (Al-Jāmi’ li Akhlāq Ar-Rāwī wa Ādābis-Sāmi’, 1/188)

Yahyā Ibn Saʿīd: Shuʿbah said to me: “Whosoever I wrote hadīth from, I was with him as a servant.” (Siyar, 7/208)

So the scholars are to be respected and honoured and not belittled and reviled. The one who belittles them seeks to raise his own status among the masses and to turn them away from Allah’s religion. A Sunni should not be in doubt (or ambiguity) concerning those who have turned away from the scholars and turned from the callers to Salafiyyah and call for a new “understanding” of the religion through their Eurocentric, Modernist, Liberal or Afrocentric lens.

The Religion is one, and the Messenger left us upon clear proof with respect to it, and upon us is to follow and to remain with those whom the Prophet (salallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam) described in the hadīth:

لاَ تَزَالُ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَائِمَةً بِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ لاَ يَضُرُّهُمْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُمْ أَوْ خَالَفَهُمْ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ وَهُمْ ظَاهِرُونَ عَلَى النَّاسِ

“There shall not cease to remain a group (tā’ifah) from my Ummah steadfast upon the command of Allah. They are not harmed by those who abandon them nor by those who oppose them until the command of Allah comes – and they shall be manifest over the people.” (Reported by Muslim, no 1037)

Muhammad Ibn Ismā’īl Al-Bukhārī (d. 256H) said: ʿAli Ibn Al-Madīnī said: “They are Ashābul-Hadīth.” They are the scholars as the Companion, Muʿāwiyah (radiyallāhu ‘anhu) stated in the first hadīth above.

Imām At-Tirmidhī reported from Ibn ʿUmar that Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam) said: “Allah will not unite my Ummah upon misguidance. And the Hand of Allah is with the Jamā’ah, and whoever deviates from that, he deviates himself to the Fire.” (no. 2167)

Abu ʿĪsā At-Tirmidhī said: “And the meaning of Al-Jamā’ah in the view of the scholars is: The people of understanding and knowledge and hadīth (ahlul-fiqh wal-ʿilm wal-hadīth).”

Abu ʿĪsā At-Tirmidhī said: I heard Al-Jārūd Ibn Mu’ādh saying: I heard ʿAlī Ibn Al-Hasan saying: I asked ʿAbdullāh Ibn Al-Mubārak: “Who are the Jamāʿah?” He said: “Abu Bakr and ʿUmar.” It was said to him: “But Abu Bakr and ʿUmar are dead.” He said: “Then it is so-and-so and so-and-so.” So it was said: “But so-and-so and so-and-so are also dead.” So he said: “Then Abu Hamzah As-Sukkarī is the Jamāʿah.”

Abu ʿĪsā At-Tirmidhī said: “Abu Hamzah is Muhammad Ibn Maymūm. He was a righteous scholar. He said this regarding him in his lifetime.”

So the Jamā’ah about whom the Messenger (salallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam) said: “The Hand of Allah is with the Jamā’ah,” are the scholars and whoever deviates from that Jamāʿah, “deviates himself to the Fire.” So beware of being drawn into this innovated speech that seeks to belittle the great Salafi scholars of our time.

And we remind those who fell into this sin with the words of Shaikh Rabī’ (hafidhahullāh): “We ask Allah that He guides them to repent, and that they return to the Truth, that they recognise the station of the People of Truth (Ahlul-Haqq), that they abandon their stance in front of those who are eager for the Truth so they do not prevent them from the Path of Allah.”

And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, "Allah does not take away the knowledge, by taking it away from (the hearts of) the people, but takes it away by the death of the religious learned men till when none of the (religious learned men) remains, people will take as their leaders ignorant persons who when consulted will give their verdict without knowledge. So they will go astray and will lead the people astray."

Sahih al-Bukhari 100

Chapter 34: How the (religious) knowledge will be taken away, Book 3: Knowledge

Abu Dawood narrated that Abu’d-Darda’ said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: “…The scholars are the heirs of the Prophets. The Prophets did not leave behind dinars or dirhams, rather they left behind a heritage of knowledge, and the one who acquires it acquires an abundant portion.”

Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Narrated Kathir ibn Qays:

Kathir ibn Qays said: I was sitting with AbudDarda' in the mosque of Damascus.

A man came to him and said: AbudDarda, I have come to you from the town of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) for a tradition that I have heard you relate from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I have come for no other purpose.

He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge, the inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned man over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave neither dinar nor dirham, leaving only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion.

Sunan Abi Dawud 3641

Chapter 1: Regarding the virtue of knowledge, Book 26: Knowledge (Kitab Al-Ilm)

Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani)

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Abu al-Darda through a different chain of narrators to the same effect from the Holy Prophet (ﷺ)

5.3 Leaving Arguing even if you are right

Narrated AbuUmamah:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for a man who avoids quarrelling even if he were in the right, a house in the middle of Paradise for a man who avoids lying even if he were joking, and a house in the upper part of Paradise for a man who made his character good.

Imam Shafi’i Rahimahullah on Debate:

Ibn ‘Abd al-Hakam reported: Al-Shafi’i, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “Among the degradation of knowledge is that you debate everyone who debates you, or you argue with everyone who argues with you.”

And he said, “Knowledge is ignorance to the people of ignorance, just as ignorance is ignorance to the people of knowledge.”

Imām Ash-Shāfi’ī debating with Ahlul-Bid’ah(People of Innovator in the religion)

Imām Ash-Shāfi’i (d. 204H – rahimahullah) said:

“I never debated anyone whom I knew to be established upon innovation.”

Al-Bayhaqi commented upon this and said:

“That is because the one who established upon innovation very rarely returns from his bid’ah. Indeed debating is with the one who is hoped will return to the truth when the truth is made clear to him.”

(See Manāqib ash-Shāfi’i 1/175)

NOTE: So when we see young brothers who have learned the rudiments of their religion in short bursts at the hands of innovators such as Abu Ishaq al-Huwaini and others like him, who then debate with established khawārij who declare the rulers and the Scholars to be Kuffār and who have absolutely no intention of coming to the truth, then this debate is forbidden for the following reasons:

1. The Salaf as a rule forbade debating with ahlul-Bid`ah – exceptions are very rare, far and few between – and only when an overwhelming benefit is seen as was the case with Ibn Abbās and the Khawārij after he knew that may listen and take heed – note that this debate of Ibn Abbās contained no praise or flattery of ahlul-Bid`ah. It was merely an establishment of the proofs upon those who it was hoped for that they would return to the truth (and thousands returned!). Furthermore, he did not take crowds of youth from the Sunnis to witness the debate. He merely narrated afterwards what had occurred which further strengthened ahlus-Sunnah for generations to come against the falsehood of the Khawārij.

2. The youth today who are ignorant of the usool of the Sunnah and ignorant of the methodology of the Salaf cannot in any way, form or manner be compared to Ibn Abbās, not from near nor far!

3. The vast majority of these debates are not due to the pursuit of the truth as Al-Bayhaqee stated.

4. Public debating becomes a circus where each side tries to win the crowd and impress onlookers.

5. When the Deen is decided upon the basis of the strength of arguing, people will be changing constantly upon that basis, as was stated by the likes of Mālik ibn Anas.

6. Much of these public debates by youth in the West are only a means of self-promotion. That is why see “movie style” trailers and adverts publicising the teenage “sheikhs” who are about the encounter this Khārijee or that Sufi. These are no more than publicity stunts designed to amass teenage followers and then to lead them astray into the innovations of Ikhwāniyyah and other types of Hizbiyyah – as has occurred before our eyes. And Allah’s aid is sought.

7. When neither side is seeking the truth but seeking only to humiliate the other and to win the crowd, then this only becomes a form of public entertainment and belittlement of the religion.

8. An impression is created that knowledge is sought and established through public debates.

9. Those who have not sought knowledge from the correct sources only cause further confusion as they fall into error after error in public in front of the innovators as has occurred and is witnessed – then the innovators ascribe these mighty errors to the people of Sunnah!

10. The youth are kept busy with these debates instead of seeking beneficial knowledge: Tawheed, Sunnah, Ahkām, etc.

Imām Al-Ājurri (died 360H – rahimahullāh) stated regarding Ahlul-Bid’ah:

“Your silence towards them and your boycotting of them when they speak is more severe upon them than you debating with them. That is what was said by those who preceded from the Righteous Salaf from the Scholars of the Muslims.”

(See Siyar A`lām an-Nubalā 12/79)

Abdullāh Ibn Imām Ahmad said: I heard my father (i.e. Ahmad Ibn Hanbal) say that Ash-Shāfi’ī said:

That which we used to hear from that which has reached us from our Salaf amongst the People of Knowledge is that they would despise speaking to, and having discussions with the people of deviation. Indeed the affair [of Islām] is about submission and to finish at that which is in the Book of Allāh and the Sunnah of His Messenger, and not to go beyond that.”

(See Al-Ādāb ash-Shar’iyyah 1/199-200)

Abul-Mudhaffar as-Sam’ānī (rahimahullah) said:

And know that when you think about the lives and biographies of the Sahābah and those who came after them from the righteous Salaf, you will find that they forbade from debating and arguing with Ahlul-Bid’ah with a severe forbiddance.”

Imam Shafi on debate

Imam Shafi on Ahlebidah

Me(Ali) debating with Ahlebidah & Ahle-Hawa(people of desire)-PAST

Al-Qāsim Ibn Uthmān al-Jaw’ī (rahimahullāh):

“If you see a man debating/arguing then he is one who loves leadership.”

And this is so true.

I have seen a guy who comes to AHlehadees Majlis(gathering) to distance laymen from scholars & he argues with Imam a lot, hiding behind Deobandi creeds(Ashari & Maturidi) who is known to argue a lot with the local Imam of Ahlehadess & he said to me most of the time Ahlehadees quote Ibne Tayemiyah & he has a lot of Subuhaat(doubts) which I think he's confused more than confuse.com.

He keeps changing, so I don't know his current state.

When I talked to him a long ago, It was 2022 winter season near by Medical Hospital Bhairahawa, at Ahlehadess Masjid Al-Huda Islamic School. I don't wana name him, he's already quite famous. so take the benefits from the discussion.

First of all, during that time, with 3-4 questions, I felt like I should not argue much with him. And I was aware of Ashari & Maturidi's understanding briefly. Also, I was aware of the importance of well-grounded scholars.

1. After a few minutes, I was sure that he was trying to feed doubts & create confusion of Ahlehadess/salafi creed in my ear by discussing a lot of topics and some topics were big like speaking against muslim leaders which are not for everyone.

2. He was jumping from one subject to another very quickly to relate or to make his argument strong like a rat from one hole to another. I felt like he was just pointing out the mistakes of Ahlehadees Imam.

3. His subjects included Allah's Hand(Allah's attributes), Khoorooj of Muslim leaders, Scholars, Books, the Infallibility of Prophets like Musa & Ibrahim Alyhisalam, and Intellect.

4. I got turned off completely when I asked him " who do you listen to & name your scholar"? What he said made me turn off. He said 3-4 times, I don't listen anyone. After that He asked me and i start naming scholars like Shaykh Fawzan, Imam Albani, Imam Bin, Imam Ibne Uthaymin, Shaykh Saleh Al Luhaydan & others. Then he mention two famous youtuber Hidden Rafidah Engineer Mirza Ali & deobandi Nouman Ali Khan. And once he said, I only follow Quran.

In my head what was going on: How can he say, he don't listen scholars when prophet said knowledge will be taken away by the death of scholars not from the hearts of people. Also prophet said schoalrs are the inheritor of the prophet. When he said I only follow Quran, I was thinking is he Quranist(Quraniyoon/Munkar-e-Hadess). But I didn't utter these words because I knew it would not be beneficial & he's known to argue a lot.The other guy with him said, why you need to know his schoalrs? I was like how this guy, left sufi-barelvi creed.

5. He also mentioned about infalability of prophet like Ahlehadess said prophets are Masoom but from quran he said prophet yusuf Alyhisalam lied to his brothers & asked me do you know this. I said I am not aware of full story. And then he mentioned do you know prophet Ibrahim Alyhislam lied 3 times. That time I was aware there is understanding of schoalrs when it comes to the infallability of propehts.

6.He mention about khorooj(relbelling) against muslim leader. He said Salafi/ahlehadess Imam says you should be silent even muslim leader oppress you. I thought this uncle, don't understand the matter of rebelling against muslim leader.

7. He also discusses Allah's attributes like Allah said he has two hands. He said Ahlehadess say Allah has hand & he said here hand means power(belief of Ashari). And in my head I remebered Imam Albani debate with Ashari. so I said to him, well we hear and Allah hear too so does that hearing same. It's not same. One of the guy is with him said who is my maternal uncle(mama) said but how do you expalin to non-Muslim.And I was silent on that point. The Mushiba is we don't want to learn to remove ignorance from ourselves first but rather we are quick to argue & debate without benefits. I was like this my maternal uncle(mama) left sufi-barelvi & still he don't have idead about Allah's attribute.

8. I said don't use intellect when it comes to Allah's Attributes but he start quoting quran where Allah encourage to use intellect. I was like he just taken quran and hadith without understanding.

9. I heard him saying to two local Imam, don't give understanding. Who are you to give Mafoom. Yes you can teach me arabic but don't give me understanding. I was like: But we differ in understanding not the religious text itslef. Even if you know Arabic, it doesn't mean that a correct understanding of Islam.

10. I said you should not just read quran and hadith only but studied under scholars. And I gave example that we can't become a doctor just by studying books. That's why we go to universities to study under Ahle-Ilm(people of knowledge) to become a doctor. He said then how can someone become a scholar. And I was silent.

11. At the end uncle, humble himslef and said don't take it personally as he realize that he was talking a lot.And we discuss from the end of jumah to Asar at masjid in winter season. We also prayed Asr there and went to home.

This was my(Ali) first debate/argue/discussion with barelvi-sufi Imam at local mosque. Those two Imam were from Madani Channel(misguided channel)

What a Huge Mistake I made, debating with Ahle-biadah which has a Major Shirk in them

The Asal of Knowledge is not to debate especially with Ahle-bidah or Ahle-Hawa(people-of-desire)

The salaf laydown reasons on why you should not debate/discuss with Ahlebidah. You'll find later more in detail in this guide. As of know let me quote Imam Shafi Rahimahullah

(See Manāqib ash-Shāfi’i 1/175)

I accept It was a mistake from me. I was jumped very quickly debating people without learning proper knowledge of the foundation.

The Sufi Imam tried to prove me that prophet is Alive in this world, Prophet can walk anywhere if he wants(I asked the proof but he slapped me), and You can ask things from prophet Muhammad (peace-be-upon-him). He gave me an analogy: you say Prophet Muhammad is the Messanger of Allah so "is" verb is used for alive. And I said prophet is alive in the hereafter not in this world. He discuss the Waseela(means of nearness). I still have a recording. At the end he said, you can ask things from prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alyhi Wasalam.

Earlier I used to listen to some famous youtubers like Dr Zakir Naik(misguided imam who is ikhwani now) & other than him. Even some salafi on what's app said he's misguided, don't listen but I ignored them because I had just started using the internet & was going to college. I was full pack with emotions and energy. I used to say people how can he wrong, whe he's quoting quran & hadith, he has a lot of knowledge about other religion too and millions of people listen to him but sadly I was wrong.

By listening to him, I was motivated & jumped to debate people which was a huge mistake to debate with AHlebidah. And when the sufi Imam can't able to quote quranic verses to proof "prophet can walk anywhere whenever he wants" then he slaps me which is not something new that Ahlebidah does get physical.

5.4 Beneficial Knowledge by Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan

The Messenger of Allah said: "Ask Allah for beneficial knowledge and seek refuge with Allah from knowledge that is of no benefit."

[Sunan Ibn Majah 3843, Grade: Hasan(Good)]

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that when the Prophet (ﷺ) performed the Subh (morning prayer), while he said the Salam, he would say: ‘Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman nafi’an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amalan mutaqabbalan (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision and acceptable deeds).’”

[Sunan Ibn Majah 925, Sahih]

Abu Hurraira narrated that The Prophet ﷺ said: ❝Whoever invites to guidance will be rewarded like those who follow him in guidance are rewarded, and that will not decrease the reward of those who have followed him❞. [Collected by Imām Muslim]

Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan Said: "And I heard Shaykh Muhammad bn Ibrahim(who was the teacher of Imam Bin Baz & Shaykh Fawzan) - may Allah have mercy on him - during a speech he delivered at some of the occasions in the faculty of ash-shariah(Islamic Legislation).

He urged with this Hadeeth he said: Verily, the Sadaqah al-Jariyah(the continious charity) might cease & the righteous child will die i.e the benefits from both of them stops. However, (as for beneficial knowledge, it continues & it doesn't cease.

Benefitting with it continues & the reward for its companion (i.e the one who benefitted others with his knowledge during his lifetime) also continues.

So this is from what differentiates knowledge from other than it from righteous actions."

3 Best Deeds to Get After Death - Hadith Collection

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "When a man dies all his good deeds come to an end except three: Ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), beneficial knowledge and a righteous son who prays for him."

[Sunan an-Nasa'i 3651, Sahih]

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When a man dies, his acts come to an end, but three, recurring charity, or knowledge (by which people) benefit, or a pious son, who prays for him (for the deceased).

[Sahih Muslim 1631]

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'The rewards of the good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are: Knowledge which he taught and spread; a righteous son whom he leaves behind; a copy of the Qur'an that he leaves as a legacy; a mosque that he built; a house that he built for wayfarers; a canal that he dug; or charity that he gave during his lifetime when he was in good health. These deeds will reach him after his death.'"

[Sunan Ibn Majah 242, Al-Mundhiri said in at-Targhib wa't-Tarhib (1/78): Its isnad is hasan. It was also classed as hasan by al-Albani in Sahih Ibn Majah.]

5.5 Sufficient Amount of Knowledge that is upon Student of Knowledge(Talibe-Ilm) to Learn - Shaykh Fawzan

5.6 What Every Muslim Needs to Learn | Shaykh Muqbil

Questioner:

Knowledge is of two types. Divine, which is the Qur’ān and Sunnah, and secular, which is the worldly sciences. So, we ask you, our virtuous scholar, which of the two is obligatory upon every Muslim to learn, and which of them is a communal obligation?

Shaykh Muqbil bin Hādī al-Wādiʻī:

All praise is due to Allāh, the Lord of all creation, and may Allāh send his peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muḥammad, his followers, and companions. And I testify that none has the right to be worshipped in truth except Allāh alone, without a partner, and I bear witness that Muḥammad is his servant and messenger.

To proceed, knowledge of the religion in and of itself comprises of whatever is obligatory upon everyone to know, and also whatever is a communal obligation.

Whatever is obligatory upon everyone, is in reference to the statement of the Prophet ﷺ “Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim”. Which entails, studying what Allāh has obligated upon you from correct belief, and understanding the prayer of Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ.

If it were obligatory for you to perform Ḥajj, then upon you is to do so as the Prophet ﷺ did it due to his saying, “Learn your Ḥajj rites from me”, collected by Muslim. And in An-Nasā’ī “Take your Ḥajj rites from me”. Likewise, if one intends to sell or purchase goods, then it is obligatory upon him to learn the rulings of buying and selling so that he does not fall into taking interest nor unlawful trade.

Therefore, the action you engage in makes it obligatory upon you to learn Allāh’s ruling regarding it. Whether that be acts of worship, beliefs, or transactions.

From knowledge, are aspects considered virtuous, but not obligatory, and therefore, they become a communal obligation.

Whomsoever Allāh favours with understanding and good memory, yet he abstains from and abandons beneficial knowledge, then he is at loss. Just as Al-Ḥāfidh al-Khaṭīb mentioned in his book “The Jurist and The Student.”

As for secular knowledge, then it is a communal obligation, but only after the Muslim gains understanding of Allāh’s religion.

“There should remain from each tribe a group in order to obtain an understanding of the religion and warn their people when they return to them so that they might be cautious” [At-Tawbah:122]

The Prophet ﷺ mentioned, as comes in the Ṣaḥīḥayn, from the narration of Mu’āwiyah, “Whomsoever Allāh wants good for, then he grants him understanding of the religion.”

However, learning what the Muslims require from the affairs of politics, manufacturing weaponry, medicine, engineering, and other than that, could be a communal obligation after one fulfils what Allāh has obligated upon you from individual obligations, and Allāh’s aid is sought.

5.7 Aqidah(belief) is the Foundation of Islam - Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan

Questioner:

This is a question from one of the scholarship students, he is asking about those who say the affair of ʿAqīdah (creed and belief) has become subsidiary and we must put it aside in order that we may unite against the external enemy.

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:

This statement is false and Allāh’s ﷻ refuge is sought. ʿAqīdah is the foundation! ʿAqīdah is the foundation and basis of this religion – the correct and sound ʿaqīdah is the basis of this religion.

Anyone who neglects ʿaqīdah is neglecting the foundation of the religion. It is the foundation of this religion – the testimony that none has the right to be worshiped in truth except Allāh ﷻ and that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allāh is the first thing that enters a person into Islām, however it is not sufficient to simply pronounce the testimony of faith, rather he must know its meaning and act upon what is necessitated by it inwardly and outwardly.

5.9 Did The Sahaabah(Companion) Ever Differ In Matters Of Aqeedah(Belief)? | Shaykh Salih Al Luhaydan

Questioner:

May Allah Bless You, honorable Shaykh. There are those who come forth & claim that sahabah differed in matters of Aqeedah. What is the ruling on this? Please give us a fatwa, May you be rewarded.

Shaykh Salih Al Luhaydan said: Astagfirullah! No one says this except a misguided innovator ! He says that sahabah differed. The Sahabah were The People of Aqeedah.

If there was any disagreement between them, then it was merely in some of the affairs ijtihaad(individual educated judgment) related to deeds.

As for the affairs of Aqeedah - the Allah is One, & that He is All-Hearing & All-Seeing, & that He does whatever He wills, that He is the Supreme creator, that He is the creator of everything & that He is aware of everything.

No! They didn't differ! And no one brings of this affair, except a caller to fitnah. Either he disguises himself with his claim that he is from the people of goodness.

He may have known some good & started to speak with the good he knows, to mislead the people & drag them into the falsehood that he is inclined to & is eager in spreading.

Or if he is from those who are deceived, let him seek Allah's forgiveness & repent to him & let him return to the people of knowledge & ask them.

And if he is from those who liked tothe conceal their agendas & cover their objectives, let him be exposed so the people can be protected from his evil."

Salafi in Aqeedah & Ikhwani in Manhaj? Shaykh al-Albani & Shaykh Al-Jaamee

Shaykh al-Albani and Shaykh Al-Jaamee refute the notion that a Salafi can be Salafi in Aqeedah and Ikhwani in Manhaj. Salafiyyah has one Aqeedah and one Manhaj. Ikhwanul-mulsimoon are a deviant sect, whether it be in aqeedah or manhaj. [Refernce: Salafi in Aqeedah & Ikhwani in Manhaj? Shaykh al-Albani & Shaykh Al-Jaamee]

Be Aware of those individuals or parties who pretend to be from Salafi

Salafi Dawah Attracts People(Awam) by Quoting the Quran, Hadith, Sahaba.

So at first, they attract people & when the Muslims are in, they teach their agenda.

For Example: The Question was asked to Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan that:

Questioner: "I study with some of the students of knowledge and they say, "We are upon the manhaj of the Scholars of the da`wah, but we do not take from the Scholars, and they slander Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, and adh-Dhahabee, and they warn from al-Aqeedat ut-Tahaawiyyah, and from studying and explaining it, and they judge at-Tahaawee with tabdee`. So what is your view about them, and is what they say true and correct such that we can take it?"

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan said: "They say [that they are] (from Ahl us-Sunnah), yet they revile the Scholars? Where, Where Ahl us-Sunnah? They are liars; they are not from Ahl us-Sunnah!

But they say "from Ahl u-Sunnah" from the angle of lying and concealment. Otherwise, they show enmity to Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, and they show enmity to the explainer of at-Tahaawiyyah, and they show enmity to the Scholars, so they are not from Ahl us-Sunnah, but they say "from Ahl us-Sunnah" from the angle of deception. So beware of them and remain distant from them!"

END of Speech [Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan Exposes The Haddaadiyyah]

6. Is Tawheed is the first & foremost Aqidah(Belief) of Islam & Muslim

Yes, Tawheed is the first & foremost foundation of Islamic Beliefs.

The Matter of Tawheed is very important [Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin]

Questioner:

Should we start our call by freeing ourselves from Dā`ish, or by calling to Salafism as a whole and explaining it?

Shaykh Sulaymān ibn Abdīllah Abul-Khayl:

The answer to this question is – start by calling to Tawhīd and exclusive devotion to Allāh as we have established during the lecture, because starting with that is acting in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messengers, the disciples of the Messenger of Allāh, and the rightly guided Imāms till this present day, for their work and the core of their concern is Tawhīd and connecting people to Allāh – and strengthening their link with Him.

This is because for anyone who is able to achieve this and establish it, other matters, such as warning against evil and these sectarian organisations, parties and groups that have risen against us in recent times, will be easy. As for Salafiyyah, it means the followers of the Pious Predecessors (as-Salaf us-Ṣāliḥ) – the disciples and those who followed them until the present day and until the Day of Rising as well. This is because the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘There will always be a group amongst my nation victorious following the truth, unharmed by those who oppose them until the Hour comes.’ It was asked, ‘who are they?’ He said, ‘They are those whose belief is what I believe and what my disciples believe.’ For this reason, anyone who comes to us claiming Salafism or adherence to this methodology, while having connections with sectarian parties and institutions or engages in acts that oppose this way and methodology, will not be considered as one who follows the methodology of Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jamā`ah and the Pious Predecessors. Anyone who traces the path, state of affairs, and history of the Pious Predecessors, will find that which brings peace of mind and joy to the heart, and boosts optimism and charity that serves this religion and belief.

Sheikh ul-Islām, Ibn Taymiyyah says: ‘Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jamā`ah, who are the Salaf us-Ṣāliḥ, follow the truth and show mercy to Aḷḷāh’s creatures.’ Salafism is not a mere statement to be uttered, banner to be raised or an aspect of materialism over which people compete with one another and criticise one another. Rather, it is a flawless path, an upstanding methodology and conformity to what came from the Head of all messengers and Allāh’s Commandments in His Lucid Book.

Tawheed is the very purpose of the sending of the Messengers (‘alaihimus-salām) from the first of them to the last of them. Allah, the Most High, said to the Prophet (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam):

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِي إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاعْبُدُونِ

“And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Me, so worship Me.'” (Al-Anbiyā: 25) Allah informed mankind that each of the Prophets would say to their people:

لَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ فَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

“We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, ‘O my people, worship Allah, you have no deity other than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day.'” (Al-A’rāf: 59) The Prophet Muhammad (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) went sent to affirm this Tawheed with a complete affirmation and he prohibited people from associating partners with Allah, whether it entails lesser or greater polytheism. Allah stated about Himself:

رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَاعْبُدْهُ وَاصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَادَتِهِ ۚ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيًّا

“He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, so worship Him alone and be constant and patient in His worship. Do you know of any who is similar to Him?” (Maryam: 65) This one verse contains three types of Tawheed. The first is His Lordship, in His saying: “He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them.” The second is His worship, in His saying: “So worship Him alone and be constant and patient in His worship.” The third is His Names and Attributes in His saying: “Do you know of any who is similar to Him?” proving that Allah has Names and Attributes that are unique to Him such that there is nothing like unto Him, the Mighty and Majestic.

Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullāh, died 752H) mentioned in Madārij as-Sālikeen (vol. 3), the affair of the Qur’an and its emphasis upon Tawheed. Ibn al-Qayyim said that the whole of the Qur’an is concerning Tawheed. The Qur’an contains information related to the Names and Attributes of Allah, His Lordship and His actions, which is referred to as At-Tawheed Al-‘Ilmee, which is to the knowledge and descriptions that refer only to Allah ―this includes oneness in Allah’s Lordship and His Names and Attributes.

We will discuss the fundamentals of Tawheed in Tawheed chapter

6.1 Two Kinds Of People Never Learn: The Shy And The Arrogant | Al-ʿAllāmah Muḥammad Amān bn ʿAlī Al-Jāmī (رحمه الله)

Asking questions can be compulsory. If you are ignorant of an issue in the creed, an affair regarding worship—in your prayer or fasting—or in your dealings and transactions; you are afraid of falling into prohibited transactions, and the different types of usury; asking questions regarding what is compulsory for you to do; in correcting your creed and avoiding Shirk; in correcting your practicing of the Sunnah, for you to avoid innovations, and regarding correcting your dealings and transactions—questions of this nature are compulsory. [Asking them is] from the aspect of seeking knowledge.

Seeking knowledge is compulsory for every Muslim male and female. And asking questions correctly is half of knowledge.

The one who arrogance or shyness prevents from asking questions will remain ignorant throughout his lifetime.

Two kinds of people never learn: the SHY and the ARROGANT.

Shyness is praiseworthy in all situations except for this. [That is,] the shyness that prevents you from asking questions and learning, such as you feeling withdrawn, for people not to laugh at you and for them not to say, “Why is he asking this sort of question?”

Or you are arrogant and think that you are old and important, and you tell yourself that, “How can you ask in front of the people, while you are so-and-so, the son of so-and-so?”

So, this prevented you from learning and you remain ignorant.

Two kinds of people never learn: the ARROGANT and the SHY.

It is particularly compulsory for you to ask questions regarding what you are ignorant of. This is not the blameworthy questioning.

6.2 Some knowledge is an individual obligation and some is a communal obligation;

END of Speech [Reference: What Is The Sufficient Amount Of Knowledge Upon A Muslim To Learn? | Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Al-Fawzān]

Individual obligation (fard ‘ayn); this refers to learning that which a Muslim cannot do without knowing in order to carry out his religious duties, and to make his deeds sincerely for Allah alone, may He be exalted, and how to interact with other people. It is enjoined upon every accountable person, male or female – after learning what is needed in order to have proper understanding of the tenets of faith, which form the foundation of the religion – to learn about that which will help him to do acts of worship and to interact with others in the correct manner; that includes wudoo’, ghusl, prayer, fasting, rulings on Zakaah and Hajj, for those for whom these things are obligatory, and having a sincere intention for the sake of Allah when doing acts of worship.

Communal Obligation (fard kifaayah); refers to the knowledge that if few people learn it then it's enough but if all of them leave then they all are sinful as Shaykh Fawzan said. This knowledge is: how to lead funeral prayers, knowledge of inheritance, how to give Friday ceremony(Khutbah) and so on.

6.3 Beneficial Knowledge Without Righteous Action

6.4 Job of Student of Knowledge(Talibe-Ilm)

Questioner [Shaykh Sulaymān ibn Abdullah Abul-Khayl]: It seems that this question is from the scholarship students - may Allah grant them a long life and make them beneficial. We thank them for their attendance, earnestness, their efforts and participation in many lectures and events. He asks; is it upon the new student to give dawah in his country and to connect the people to callers who are upon the Prophetic Sunnah?

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān: Yes, he should do so. He should call to Islam in accordance to the level of his knowledge and convey it to them. Likewise, upon him is to direct the people to the scholars and callers who are upon the truth, in order that they may benefit from them and ask them questions.

6.5 The Quran can be means of destruction for the Ummah

Shaykh Abdu-Razzaq al-Badr said:

Uqbah ibn 'Amr who said [that the prophet] said:

"I fear two things for my nation; the Quran & Milk..."

& it has also been reported in other narrations, on of which has been authenticated by Shaykh Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, The destruction of my nation lies in the book & the milk.

"The destruction of my nation is in the book" - meaning the Quaran - & the Milk"

The companion (Sahaba)Asked; "O Messanger of Allah" And what is 'the book & the milk.'

He Prophet Peace be upon Him replied "[a people] who will learn the Quran & interpret it other than how Allah revealed & they will love milk [so much] that they will abandon, the congregational & Friday prayers, 'wa yaddun'. Meaning they will live in the desert so they leave the congregational & Friday prayers."

Pay attention to what he said: "I fear for my nation" & in the other wording "The destruction of my nation is in the Quran & the Milk".

Is it possible for the Quran to be a means of destruction?

He, the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said "The destruction of my nation will be in the Quran." - so is it possible for the Quran to be means of destruction?

Yes, this can be possible if a person delves into it with his intellect & his own opinion, interpreting it away from how it was revealed & away from its true meaning & due to this he deviates & cause others to deviate, destroying himself & others. The prophet feared this path for his nation.

So how is one safeguard from this path?
